ABOUT JOHN

John Bator has been a resident of Bedford for 27 years. He and his wife Christina have been married 36 years and have two wonderful sons. He is a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church.

John holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Hartford (1986) and completed the Wharton School of Business’ Advance Management Program (2005). Following college, he began his career with Price Waterhouse in Hartford Connecticut and focused his efforts within the firm’s specialized insurance practice as a CPA. In addition to providing audit services to his property and casualty insurance and reinsurance clients, John instructed numerous courses covering reinsurance, loss reserving and personal development.

Following Price Waterhouse, John spent 21 years in various senior financial capacities with Riverstone Resources LLC (most recently in Manchester, NH), including the last 15 years as Chief Financial Officer of Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited (RiverStone’s ultimate parent) worldwide run-off operations. As a senior executive, John spent a great majority of his time leading efforts to acquire new business of insurance portfolios and was successful helping to complete numerous transactions in both the US and England.

John has served as a director on over 40 companies in both the United States and various foreign countries and also served as the chairman of RiverStone’s top UK parent holding company’s audit committee along with chairing the investment committees of RiverStone’s US based companies. These experiences provided John with the appreciation for the importance of strong corporate governance under various and very strict regulatory regimes.  In 2016, John retired from RiverStone in order to stop and smell the roses (and to spend more time in the gym and play more golf!!). Today, John spends his time in the role of Treasurer and member of the Board of Directors of Manchester Country Club. He has recently been an active volunteer at the polls including being part of the team that facilitated the process of tabulating the votes for recent Town of Bedford elections.  He participated in the due diligence process of selecting new voting machines with a focus on the financial viability of the eventual vendor.  When not spending a couple of hours in the gym each morning and playing golf in the afternoons, John does ad hoc consulting on various financial matters.

John Bator is very humbled to be able to offer his past experience and expertise to potentially help the Town of Bedford as a member of its Town Council. His overall philosophy and mission is to provide fiscally conservative principles, transparency and efficiencies to the governance of Bedford, in order to give its citizens the best quality of services at the best cost.
